Service overview

What commercial electrical installation & testing actually involves.

What it is, Commercial electrical installation covers new fit-outs, refurbishments, distribution-board upgrades, EICRs for landlords and tenants, and reactive maintenance for businesses across Blackpool, Preston and the wider Fylde Coast.

Who it's for, Independent retailers, restaurants and cafés, gyms, offices, light industrial units, holiday parks and commercial landlords carrying out CAT-A or CAT-B fit-outs.

When you need it, Before opening day, at lease renewal, on change of tenant, after a periodic EICR coding, when a distribution board is end-of-life, or when load demand has outgrown the existing supply.

Why it matters, An unsatisfactory EICR or a non-compliant installation can void your business insurance, breach your lease, and shut your premises down on the spot at an HSE inspection.

What happens if you delay

The cost of putting it off.

Common, concrete consequences we see across the Fylde Coast every month, not scare tactics, just what's documented.

  • 1

An unsatisfactory commercial EICR is grounds for your insurer to refuse a fire claim, potentially six-figure exposure for a small business.

  • 2

Three-phase imbalance from poorly distributed loads causes nuisance tripping and shortens the life of expensive kitchen and refrigeration plant.

  • 3

Out-of-date emergency lighting fails its 3-hour test on the day a fire officer visits, immediate enforcement notice.

  • 4

Tenant alterations done without landlord consent or certification breach almost every commercial lease.

  • 5

Untested PAT and fixed-wiring records leave directors personally exposed under the Electricity at Work Regs 1989.

Our process

A five-step system, no surprises.

  1. Step 1

    On-site inspection

We attend the property, photograph the existing installation and confirm the scope in person, never quoting blind from a phone call.

  2. Step 2

    Written diagnosis & fixed quote

You receive a clear breakdown by email: what we'll do, the parts used, the certificate issued, and a fixed price with no day-rate surprises.

  3. Step 3

    Scheduled installation

Booked into a confirmed slot with a named lead electrician. We turn up on time, in branded vans, with the materials on board.

  4. Step 4

    Testing & certification

Every install is tested under BS 7671 and signed off with the relevant NICEIC / Part P certificate uploaded to your portal.

  5. Step 5

    Aftercare & 12-month guarantee

12 months on workmanship plus manufacturer warranties on parts. One phone number, Alex or Jack, for anything that needs revisiting.

Specification & method

How we deliver, in detail.

We deliver commercial work to BS 7671 with BS EN 61439 distribution boards, BS 5266 emergency lighting and BS 5839 fire-alarm interfacing where applicable, on three-phase and single-phase supplies up to 400A.

Materials & equipment

  • Hager, Schneider and Eaton TP&N distribution boards with MCCB or RCBO sub-protection
  • SY, YY and SWA cable for industrial control and external runs, glanded and earthed correctly
  • LED panels and high-bays from Ansell, Aurora and Phoebe, DALI or 1-10V dimmable where specified
  • Containment via Legrand Cablofil tray, dado trunking and floor boxes for office fit-outs

Method & standards

  • Load study before quoting any board upgrade, we measure with rolling 7-day clamp logs, not nameplate guesses
  • Phase balancing on every TP&N install to keep neutral current within 10% of any phase
  • Earthing arrangements verified (TN-S, TN-C-S, TT) and main earth upgraded to 16mm² minimum on commercial supplies
  • Final testing recorded on Megger digital instruments with Bluetooth upload straight into your certificate

Variations of this service

  • CAT-A fit-out, shell-and-core to landlord standard
  • CAT-B fit-out, full tenant install including lighting, power, data and AV
  • EICR coding for periodic inspections, with remedials priced separately
  • Reactive maintenance contracts with 24/7 cover

Where it applies on the Fylde Coast

  • Restaurants and dark kitchens, heavy single-point loads, dedicated three-phase outlets, isolation interlocks
  • Retail units on Bond Street, Bispham and Cleveleys, dimmable LED, feature lighting, EPOS power
  • Light-industrial units in Squires Gate and Whitehills, three-phase machine outlets, compressed-air interlocks
  • Holiday parks and caravan sites, bollard supplies, ELV lighting, RCD pillars

Residential vs commercial

Commercial work brings three-phase distribution, larger conductor sizes, formal load studies, BS 5266 emergency lighting integration and far stricter periodic inspection cycles (1–5 years vs domestic 10), but the underlying BS 7671 standard is the same.
