Service overview
What commercial ev charger installation actually involves.
What it is, Commercial EV charging covers workplace, fleet, customer-facing and on-street installations, typically 7–22kW AC chargers with load balancing, OCPP back-office integration and per-driver billing.
Who it's for, Employers offering EV salary sacrifice, fleet operators in Preston and Lancaster, retail and hospitality venues, holiday parks and commercial landlords future-proofing their car parks.
When you need it, Before salary-sacrifice EV uptake outpaces your charging capacity, alongside fleet electrification mandates, ahead of a 2030 phase-out planning exercise, or to monetise existing car park space.
Why it matters, OZEV WCS grants of up to £350 per socket (max 40 sockets per applicant) are still available, but the scheme will close. Installing now captures the grant; waiting forfeits up to £14,000.
What happens if you delay
The cost of putting it off.
Common, concrete consequences we see across the Fylde Coast every month, not scare tactics, just what's documented.
- 1
Unmanaged charging clusters trip the main fuse on busy mornings when multiple drivers plug in at once.
- 2
Skipping OCPP-compliant hardware locks you into a single back-office provider and kills resale value.
- 3
Public-access chargers with no signage or payment integration get monopolised by neighbours, not your customers.
- 4
Cheap untethered units fail their PAT-equivalent testing within 18 months in salt-air car parks.
- 5
Missing the OZEV WCS grant window costs up to £350 per socket, irrecoverable once the scheme closes.
Our process
A five-step system, no surprises.
Step 1
On-site inspection
We attend the property, photograph the existing installation and confirm the scope in person, never quoting blind from a phone call.
Step 2
Written diagnosis & fixed quote
You receive a clear breakdown by email: what we'll do, the parts used, the certificate issued, and a fixed price with no day-rate surprises.
Step 3
Scheduled installation
Booked into a confirmed slot with a named lead electrician. We turn up on time, in branded vans, with the materials on board.
Step 4
Testing & certification
Every install is tested under BS 7671 and signed off with the relevant NICEIC / Part P certificate uploaded to your portal.
Step 5
Aftercare & 12-month guarantee
12 months on workmanship plus manufacturer warranties on parts. One phone number, Alex or Jack, for anything that needs revisiting.
Benefits
What you actually get.
OZEV grant capture
Up to £350/socket for the first 40 sockets, we handle the entire OZEV WCS application for you.
Load-managed clusters
Dynamic load balancing keeps total demand within your existing supply, no DNO upgrade in most cases.
OCPP-open hardware
Every unit we install is OCPP 1.6/2.0 compliant, back-office provider portable, not locked in.
Per-driver billing
RFID, app or number-plate recognition for staff, customer or public charging revenue collection.
Future-ready containment
We trench and gland for 100% bay coverage even if you only install 25% of sockets day one.
Recruitment & retention edge
Workplace charging now ranks top 3 in EV-driver job adverts, direct hiring advantage.
Specification & method
How we deliver, in detail.
We deliver workplace and fleet installs from single 7kW units up to 22-bay clusters with shared three-phase supplies, OCPP cloud integration and DNO-approved load management.
Materials & equipment
- Rolec, EO, Project EV and Zaptec commercial-grade units, 7kW single-phase and 22kW three-phase
- SWA 16–35mm² for sub-mains, terminated in IP66 outdoor enclosures
- Bollards for forecourt and verge installations, vandal-resistant steel construction
- Standalone meter cabinet for revenue-grade MID metering where billing accuracy is contractual
Method & standards
- DNO and supply audit first, many sites can support far more sockets with dynamic load balancing than a static design assumes
- OCPP back-office configured with Monta, AMPECO or AmpControl for billing and reporting
- Cable containment sized for future expansion, pull-strings and spare conduit on day one
- Commissioning with simulated EV load tests on every socket before sign-off
Variations of this service
- Staff-only workplace charging with RFID or salary-sacrifice integration
- Customer-facing destination charging in hotel, leisure and retail car parks
- Fleet depot charging with overnight scheduled cycles
- Pay-per-use public access with full Mastercard/contactless or app payment
Where it applies on the Fylde Coast
- Office car parks 5–50 bays, typical mix of staff and visitor sockets
- Holiday parks in Cleveleys and Fleetwood, guest-billed via app or pitch number
- Hotels in Blackpool, Lytham and Lancaster, branded destination charging
- Fleet depots in Preston and Squires Gate, overnight charging optimised for off-peak tariffs
Residential vs commercial
Commercial installs differ from domestic in three key ways: load management across multiple sockets, OCPP back-office for billing and reporting, and a separate revenue-grade sub-board often required by accounts. The OZEV grants are also different, WCS for workplace vs EVHS (now ended) for home.
