Service overview

What led lighting upgrades actually involves.

What it is, LED lighting upgrades replace fluorescent tubes, halogen downlighters, sodium high-bays and incandescent bulbs with direct LED equivalents, typically 60–80% lower wattage for the same or better light output.

Who it's for, Commercial premises with old fluorescent or HID lighting, homeowners upgrading whole-house lighting, landlords prepping properties for letting, and any building still running halogen downlighters.

When you need it, Before your next electricity contract renewal, when fluorescent tubes are failing repeatedly, during any refurbishment, and immediately for any property still running halogen GU10 downlighters (they fail constantly).

Why it matters, LED draws 60–80% less wattage, lasts 25,000+ hours (vs 1,000 for halogen, 8,000 for fluorescent) and pays for itself in energy savings alone, and that's before counting the time, ladders and labour you save on bulb-changes.

What happens if you delay

The cost of putting it off.

Common, concrete consequences we see across the Fylde Coast every month, not scare tactics, just what's documented.

  • 1

Halogen GU10 downlighters fail every 6–12 months, the cumulative replacement cost exceeds the LED upgrade cost in 2–3 years.

  • 2

Fluorescent fittings flicker at end-of-life, contributing to headaches, eyestrain and recorded productivity losses in office environments.

  • 3

Old high-bay sodium lighting in warehouses takes 10+ minutes to warm up after any power interruption, workflow lost.

  • 4

Cheap LED retrofits without proper colour temperature (CCT) and CRI matched to the use case produce harsh, off-putting light that staff and customers actively dislike.

  • 5

Dimmable LEDs paired with non-dimmable old transformers buzz and shimmer, a botched install you'll be tearing back out within 6 months.

Our process

A five-step system, no surprises.

  1. Step 1

    On-site inspection

We attend the property, photograph the existing installation and confirm the scope in person, never quoting blind from a phone call.

  2. Step 2

    Written diagnosis & fixed quote

You receive a clear breakdown by email: what we'll do, the parts used, the certificate issued, and a fixed price with no day-rate surprises.

  3. Step 3

    Scheduled installation

Booked into a confirmed slot with a named lead electrician. We turn up on time, in branded vans, with the materials on board.

  4. Step 4

    Testing & certification

Every install is tested under BS 7671 and signed off with the relevant NICEIC / Part P certificate uploaded to your portal.

  5. Step 5

    Aftercare & 12-month guarantee

12 months on workmanship plus manufacturer warranties on parts. One phone number, Alex or Jack, for anything that needs revisiting.

Benefits

What you actually get.

60–80% energy reduction

A 250W metal halide high-bay becomes a 60W LED equivalent, same lux on the floor, 76% less consumption.

25,000+ hour lifetime

10+ years before replacement under typical 8h/day commercial use, eliminates the bulb-change cycle.

Improved CRI

CRI 80+ LEDs render colours more accurately than fluorescent, meaningful for retail, hospitality and clinical use.

Instant on, fully dimmable

No warm-up, no flicker, full DALI or 1-10V dimmability where the application demands it.

Payback in 18–30 months

Typical commercial retrofit payback from energy savings alone before counting maintenance reduction.

Capital allowance eligible

LED upgrades qualify for the Annual Investment Allowance, first-year 100% capital allowance for limited companies.

Specification & method

How we deliver, in detail.

We specify and install LED retrofit and new-build LED schemes from Ansell, Aurora, Phoebe, Crompton and Integral, matched to the task, the colour temperature and the dimming control system already in place.

Materials & equipment

  • Ansell Inta and Aurora LED panels for office grid ceilings (600x600 and 1200x300)
  • Phoebe high-bays and low-bays for warehouse and industrial, 60W to 200W LED replacements
  • GU10 LED retrofits, non-flickering, dimmable, 5-year warranty
  • Linear LED battens for utility, garage and back-of-house

Method & standards

  • Lux survey before quoting, most retrofits over-deliver lux, so we can often reduce fitting count and capex
  • DALI or 1-10V controls retained where existing, or upgraded to wireless mesh (Casambi) for new control granularity
  • Colour temperature matched to use: 3000K for hospitality, 4000K for office, 5000K for warehouse and clinical
  • Existing wiring re-used wherever possible, LED retrofit needs less containment, not more

Variations of this service

  • Direct retrofit (tube-for-tube, fitting-for-fitting), fastest payback, lowest capex
  • Refit with new luminaires (replaces old fittings entirely), better lux distribution and aesthetic
  • Full re-design with new layout, for major refurbishment where ceilings come down anyway
  • Emergency-rated LED variants, combined functional + escape-route in one luminaire

Where it applies on the Fylde Coast

  • Offices in Preston and Lancaster, typical 600x600 panel retrofit, 1-day visit
  • Warehouses in Squires Gate and Whitehills, high-bay swap, often paired with daylight sensors
  • Hotels and restaurants in Blackpool and Lytham, feature lighting and dimmable accent
  • Homes across the Fylde Coast, full-house GU10 swap + LED strip and feature lighting

Residential vs commercial

Domestic LED upgrades focus on direct GU10 swaps, LED filament for visible feature fittings, and basic dimming. Commercial scales to lux-surveyed retrofit programmes, DALI control, presence detection, daylight harvesting and full capital allowance treatment.

Typical: 60–80% wattage reduction across the upgraded circuits. For a 50-fitting office switching from T8 fluorescent to LED panels, that's £600–£1,200 per year saved at current commercial tariffs, before factoring in reduced bulb-change labour.
